Ultima

The system integrates, processes, and handles WAFS / ISCS&SADIS WMO formatted data including Alphanumerical, GRIB, T4 and BUFR data and performs all the usual weather workstation features. In addition, it integrates and handles meteorological images such as satellite and radar images. The system is to be operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and based on a multitasking Operating System to perform real time reception, processing and displaying features. ULTIMAIES uses the standard off-the-shelf software.

Data

The system integrates all of the following types of data:

  • Alphanumerical

  • GRIB

  • T4

  • BUFR

  • Satellite Images

Data Sources

The system is capable of receiving from:

  • VSAT satellite receiver using the X25 interface and protocol

For the purpose of reliability, it also receives data from:

  • Global Telecommunication System (GTS) (Meteorological Specialized Telecommunication Network)

  • Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN)

  • Meteorological Data Dissemination Network (MDD)

 

The system can also receive and integrate data using the LAN/WAN (local or wide area network using the dedicated telephonic line or public telegraphic line) with TCP/IP communication protocol for other optional needs like a remote reception system or to integrate the satellite images

 

Data Visualization

The system provides a graphical user interface for visualization and data handling. All Graphical User Interfaces offer graphical and ergonomic environment and multi-windowing.

 

Bulletin Viewer

This Graphical Interface is used to retrieve and display all alphanumerical messages in raw format. The user can retrieve the exact message or group of messages using queries on the WMO header

 

VAN

This Graphical Interface is used to retrieve and display all encoded products:

  • METAR

  • TAF

  • SYNOP

  • PILOT

  • TEMP

  • METAR

The messages could be retrieved using queries on data type, station Ids/Synoptic Number or both. The user can select from displayed data (Raw and Decoded). The user can change the parameter units

 and also print or save the text file.
